When shopping for footwear, most people focus on comfort, durability, and style. But have you ever stopped to think about what's actually in the materials that make up your shoes?
At Ammonite, we believe that understanding the materials behind a product is just as important as how it looks and feels. That's why we're committed to sourcing materials responsibly and embracing innovative solutions that help reduce environmental impact without compromising on comfort or performance.
Why Materials Matter
The materials used in footwear can have a significant impact on both product quality and the environment. As awareness grows around sustainability and chemical use in consumer products, many people are looking for greater transparency from the brands they choose.
We're proud to be part of that conversation and to share more about the materials that go into our footwear.
Tested for Regulated PFAS Compounds

PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are a group of synthetic chemicals that have been used in various industries for their water and stain-resistant properties. Some PFAS compounds have attracted increasing attention due to their persistence in the environment.
The materials used in our footwear have been independently tested for a range of regulated PFAS compounds, including PFOS, PFOA and C9-C14 PFCAs.
The results found no detectable levels of these regulated PFAS compounds in the materials tested. This provides reassurance that the materials meet current regulatory requirements relating to these substances and reflects our commitment to making informed material choices.
As environmental standards continue to evolve, we remain committed to working with trusted manufacturing partners and sourcing materials responsibly.
Bloom™ Insoles: Turning Excess Algae into Comfort

Innovation is an important part of creating more responsible products, which is why many of our footwear styles feature Bloom™ insoles.
Bloom™ technology takes excess algae collected from freshwater ecosystems and transforms it into a high-performance material suitable for footwear. Harmful algae blooms can reduce oxygen levels in waterways and negatively affect aquatic ecosystems. By harvesting excess algae and repurposing it into useful materials, Bloom™ helps support cleaner waterways while reducing reliance on traditional petroleum-based resources.
The result is a comfortable, supportive insole that helps deliver all-day cushioning while contributing to a more sustainable approach to material sourcing.

Small Choices, Meaningful Impact
We believe that creating better products starts with making better choices. From selecting materials that have been tested for regulated PFAS compounds to incorporating Bloom™ algae-based insoles, we're continually looking for ways to improve the products we offer.
There is always more work to be done, but every step matters. By focusing on responsible materials, innovation, and quality, we're committed to creating footwear that supports both your adventures and a more sustainable future.
At Ammonite, comfort, performance, and thoughtful material choices go hand in hand, because what's really in your footwear matters.
