The Inspiration Behind Ammonite: A Journey to Create the Perfect Waterproof Shoe

From a young age, I’ve always had a fascination with nature, especially the ocean. I spent countless hours exploring tide pools, collecting shells, and marveling at the resilience of marine life during family holidays on the Jurassic coast. It was during these explorations that I first encountered ammonites—ancient sea creatures whose magnificent, spiraled shells inspired me in more ways than one. Little did I know, these creatures would play a pivotal role in my journey to create a water-protective shoe brand.

After noticing a gap in the market, I saw an opportunity to create stylish, functional water-protective footwear. Many options were either bulky and unattractive or lacked the comfort and support needed for everyday wear. As someone who values both aesthetics and practicality, I realised there was an opportunity to combine these features and create a shoe that could withstand the elements while still looking great.

Drawing inspiration from the ammonite’s spiral shell, I envisioned a shoe that was not only waterproof but also represented durability and elegance. Just as ammonites thrived in their aquatic environments, I wanted my shoes to empower people to embrace the outdoors without fear of the weather. Whether walking in the rain on the way to work, hiking through muddy trails, or simply enjoying a day by the beach, I wanted our community to feel confident and stylish, regardless of the conditions.

In developing Ammonite, I also wanted to emphasise sustainability. My educational background in marine biology instilled in me a deep respect for the environment. I knew that parts of my shoes would need to be made from eco-friendly materials that wouldn’t harm our precious ecosystems. While we have taken steps to prioritise sustainability, we recognise that this is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to becoming even more sustainable in the future. By continuously improving our practices, we aim to honour the beauty of nature while providing a product that helps people connect with it.

Through countless prototypes, testing, and revisions, Ammonite was born. Each shoe reflects my commitment to quality, style, and sustainability, all inspired by the resilience of the ammonite. I’m proud to offer a product that not only meets the needs of those who love the outdoors but also respects the planet we all share.
